About this engagement

Now that Kimba is identified as the site for the radioactive waste facility, there are wide range of topics that we will need your input on; from aspects of the facility design, to governance and funding arrangements.

It may not be practical to have all of these conversations face-to-face, so we are introducing an online platform to keep conversations moving. Gaining your input on the creation of the Regional Consultative Committee (RCC) provides an opportunity to pilot this online forum.

About the pilot

This pilot will introduce you to using an online forum. The engagement is currently restricted to members of the Kimba Consultative Committee (KCC) and Kimba Economic Working Group (KEWG). The outcomes from the engagement will help us create an effective RCC.

About this engagement

This discussion poses six key questions about the RCC for your feedback. Your responses will help us shape regulations that set the terms of the RCC, as required under the National Radioactive Waste Management Act 2012 (the Act), including but not limited to the functions, operation and procedures, and membership of the committee.

The RCC will be established under the Act, and will exist throughout the facility planning and construction, and ongoing once the facility is operational. The department will use the committee to get input on key issues and inform the community of key developments.

The RCC will advise on the Community Skills and Development Program grant applications. Under the proposed amendments to the Act, it will also be consulted on the type of entity to be established and associated governance structures of the community controlled entity administering the Community Fund.

We need your input on who, what and how the RCC will operate. Please reflect on your experiences and observations with the KCC and KEWG, and how lessons learned can be useful to the RCC.

Two weeks before the forum closes, we will also use the online forum to seek your feedback on your user experience. For example:

  • how easy was it to navigate around the site
  • how easy was it to provide comments and rate ideas
  • was it well moderated

We will use this feedback to adjust any future online consultations.
